BAM®S uses 405nm laser to induce fluorescence from metabolic compounds (such as NADH, riboflavin, etc.) in the body of biological particles, and the number of biological particles can be determined based on the intensity of the fluorescence; at the same time, BAM®S can also measure the particle size and number of total particles in the air based on the principle of Mie scattering. Therefore, BAMS can simultaneously monitor the number of biological particles and total particles in the environment.
Under the laser irradiation at 405nm, the metabolites (NADH, riboflavin and other proteins) of microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, spores, etc.) entering the detection area can be excited to produce fluorescence in a certain wavelength range, and these fluorescences are picked up by the sensor and analyzed to determine the microorganisms. The spectral amount of fluorescence represents the number of microbial particles. At the same time, according to the principle of Mie scattering, all particles entering the detection area scatter and produce scattered light, the intensity of the scattered light represents the particle size and the number of scattered light represents the number of particles.
